Censo de aves migratórias (Charadriidae, Scolopacidae e Laridae) na Coroa do Avião, Igarassu, Pernambuco, Brasil Zoologia
Telino-Júnior,Wallace R.; Azevedo-Júnior,Severino M. de; Lyra-Neves,Rachel M. de.
Thousands of shorebirds and seabirds use the Atlantic route through the northeastern coast of Brazil every year to migrate to South America. In this study was made a census of individuals that uses the Coroa do Avião (7º40'S and 34º50"W), an islet located on the south bar of the Santa Cruz channel on the north coast of Pernambuco state, from May 1993 throughout April 1995 and from August 1996 throughout July 1997. Four species of the family Charadriidae, seven species of the family Scolopacidae, and two species of the family Laridae was observed. The populational peaks match both the period of arrival to the winter season site and the period of departure to the reproduction site. The species considered very frequent were: Charadrius semipalmatus Bonaparte,...

How do macrobenthic resources concentrate foraging waders in large megatidal sandflats? ArchiMer
Ponsero, Alain; Sturbois, Anthony; Desroy, Nicolas; Le Mao, Patrick; Jones, Auriane; Fournier, Jerome.
The relationship between foraging shorebirds, macrobenthos and sedimentary parameters has been widely studied across Western Europe. Megatidal areas have large zones uncovered when the water retreats. Consequently, in such cases, the tide also influences foraging activities. This paper examines the use of an intertidal space by waders to define how macrobenthic resource concentrates foraging activity of birds in a large megatidal sandflat. This approach combines accurate spatial distribution of waders (Oystercatcher, Eurasian curlew, Bar-tailed Godwit and Redknot) according to their activity with ecological/biological parameters. A differential exploitation of the flat is clearly shown, with macrobenthic biomass appearing as one of the main explanatory...

Prédation par les limicoles de la macrofaune intertidale en baie de Saint-Brieuc. Projet EUPHORBE. ArchiMer
Annezo, Jean-pierre; Hamon, Dominique.
The object of this report is to provide an estimation, on an annual basis, of the macrozoobenthic biomass consumed by the major wading birds staying in the bay of Saint-Brieuc (Brittany, Western Channel). Historical information was first reviewed and then updated throughout the winter 1987-88, by field observations (counts of birds, birds activities ... ). Six species account for most of the predation on macrofauna, and are thus studied with more detail. A specific survey is devoted to oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus), because of its feeding on an exploited stock of the edible cockle (Cerastoderma edule).

Réseau trophique de l'anse de l'Aiguillon : dynamique et structure spatiale de la macrofaune et des limicoles hivernants ArchiMer
Degre, Delphine.
The Aiguillon Cove has been preserved as Natural Reserves since 1996 and 1999 for its international importance as wintering areas for waterbirds. The benthic communities of this a macrotidal bay were still little studied. In order to understand the spatial pattern and the dynamics of the main compartments of its trophic network, two cartographies were carried out at the time of the departure (March) and the arrival (October) of the waders. A monthly study was carried out too in three stations of the upper mudflat. The spatio-temporal homogeneity of the granulometry of the sediments and the strong seasonal variation of the salinity of pore water were highlighted. The molluscs' diversity is low, especially on the upper mudflat where abundance of Hydrobia...
